Latecomers to performances will not be allowed into the auditorium until the end of a scene or an act, in order to lessen the disruption of the performance for other members of the audience. We look forward to the return of "Isosceles", a professional theatre company who has visited us before. It is quite a long time since they last entertained with several comedies, but this time they are thrilling their audiences with "The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". The production is based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and has been praised by everyone who has seen it. Saturday 18 October and Sunday 19 October 11am to 4pm The Ifield Barn is taking part in a national event for the Heritage, alongside many other groups and institutions. The Big Draw is a celebration of drawing which involves hundred of inclusive, participatory drawing events. These are being held in October in museums, galleries, and heritage and community sites, libraries and of course, theatres throughout Britain. The aims are to increase the national interest in drawing, as it has shown that if drawing is enjoyed by many in a community, it has a beneficial effect on the whole area. The Big Draw events attract a new audience to museums, art galleries and theatres. It creates an enjoyable focus for school or hall, bringing different generations or audiences together. We shall be working with Crawley Arts Society and Crawley Museum Society within the Barn theatre, both inside and out, making use of a marquee kindly loaned and erected by the Borough Council. Saturday is open for all Barn Members to join in a work-shop on Theatre design, both stage set and costumes. The day will be led by a professional set designer Sunday is an open house, when the public is welcome to join in and draw on the books with pencils we will be providing. There will be no restrictions on abilities, age or previous experience. Some advice is available from the arts society and the pictures can have any subject We only ask for enthusiasm and good behaviour Please come and join in the activities and make others welcome. We may well make new members and attract audiences. The Green Room AGM Report The AGM this year passed quite painlessly, even without the guiding hand of our Treasurer, and business was completed successfully.
The Committee lost four of its members this year, John and Margaret Stone and Leonard Doolan, who are moving to obscure outposts of the Realm. We thank them all for their support and contributions over the years towards the smooth running of the Barn and the Green Room and we wish them joy and happiness in the next phrase of their lives. And of course, Eric Howker, who sadly passed away. Surprisingly we had four applicants to fill the vacated seats. The Green Room welcomes Anne Allison, Brenda Burgess, Bob Ellis and Peter Stewart, who are bristling with new ideas and enthusiasm. We hope you will come and support our future events.
We are sorry to announce that Vera (Wakefield) Marks died on 1 July. She worked very hard for the Barn until moving away. Sunday lunches We are always looking for volunteers to help with lunches in many different ways. If you are able to clear tables, wash and iron the tablecloths, act as a kitchen manager to check cleanliness and replenish stocks of cleaning materials etc., or you would like to help cook a lunch, we would love to hear from you. You would only be asked to help occasionally to spread the load amongst more of our members. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the lunches.
The bar at the Barn is staffed by volunteers and more people are needed to help with this The bar is open Friday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes as well as on performance nights. If you feel you would like to help behind the bar please contact Vicky Mills on 01293 536600 Full training will be given.

KINDERTRANSPORT Eva, aged 9, is a German Jewish child who was sent with 10,000 other Jewish children to England in 1938 to protect her from Nazi persecution. The play is intrinsically intertwined with past and present and shows how her experience reflects on her future as it did with many such children. It is a very moving play and shows the sacrifice a Mother will make to save her child and the child’s need to stay with her Mother.
