ADVANCE NOTICE Humble Boy By Charlotte Jones Directed by John Miller Can a play be sad, very sad and funny, very, very funny at the same time? "Humble Boy" is such a play. You will meet, in a garden in Middle England, Felix Humble, an astro-physicist; Flora Humble, his ophisticated, domineering mother; George Pye, Flora’s brash suitor; Rosie Pye, past lover of Felix; Mercy Lott, faithful friend of Flora, and Jim, the gardener. Felix has returned home, after the sudden death of his father, to discover that all the precious bees have been removed from the garden. Here begins a modern English comedy, full of surprises, witty dialogue, some strong language and some delicate moments of tenderness. Come and enjoy a brilliant, original play at the Barn. Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22 May @ 8 pm
Taking Steps By Alan Ayckbourn Directed by Margaret Morris Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 July 2010 Taking steps is a sophisticated farce from the pen of the comic genius Alan Ayckbourn. Roland is considering buying an old Victorian house, once a brothel, and his solicitor and the vendor, a builder, arrive to complete the deal. Also in the house are his wife and her brother and her brother’s fiancée. In the course of one hectic night and morning, with continual running up and downstairs and in and out of rooms, these characters - each immersed in his or her own problem - try to sort themselves out. All this takes place in an original setting, in which all the rooms, passages and stairs are on a single level. This promises to be an enjoyable evening’s entertainment that combines the playwright’s wry observations of human behaviour conveyed with warmth and humour. At the time of going to press we are still looking to cast two male characters in their 30s/40s. If you are interested – or know of someone who might be - in reading the script and perhaps taking part please contact Mark Turner (Membership) on Crawley 01293 510954.
