Audition Notice for  Hi-de-Hi   by Jimmy Parry and David Croft.
                                                Directed by Janine Robins.

Auditions will be at 3 pm on Sunday 5 February at the Ifield Barn Theatre

Performance dates will be Wednesday to Saturday 16 to 19 May

Joe Maplin wants to expand his holiday camps and has picked an exotic location. But who will be running it?  Will Ted’s wife catch up with him?  

Characters with approximate ages:

Ted Bovis – 40 to 50              Ted holds the position of Camp Host at Maplin's, responsible for hosting the competitions, acting as compère and performing his own vulgar stand-up routine.  

Gladys Pugh - 30’                 Welsh -  makes the campers aware of the fun on offer to them, occasionally bursting into song –  sharp tongue and forever making doe eyes at her boss,

Peggy Ollerenshaw  -  20 to 30          A humble chalet maid with a big personality.

Spike Dixon – 20 to 30   Spike is the new Camp Comic, whom Ted has taken under his wing to teach him everything he knows about comedy. .

Jeffrey Fairbrother – 30 to 50     Professor of archaeology at Cambridge  but wants to meet real people. The new Entertainments Manager at the start of the Maplin’s season.

Fred Quilley – 20 to 40          A former jockey who lives in hope of getting back his licence, which he lost when accused of fixing races.  Now the Riding Instructor.

Yvonne Stuart-Hargreaves  - any age     Supercilious ex-ballroom dancing champion Yvonne is horrified at having been reduced to working in such a squalid place as Maplin’s.

 Barry Stuart-Hargreaves  (age to suit Yvonne)     Yvonne’s husband and dancing partner is regarded by his wife as being beneath her.

Sylvia Garnsey – 20 to 30       Leggy, blonde and husky-voiced Sylvia is the sexy Yellowcoat who is a thorn in Gladys’ side.

Mr. Partridge  - 50 up           Children’s entertainer. Chief responsibility is to perform the regular Punch and Judy shows. However, has a passionate dislike of children of all ages.

Other “Yellowcoats” will also be needed.
